Journal entry 1 (ENG1013)

Teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics subjects should remain in English. Do you agree or disagree? Discuss.

Both Science and Mathematics subjects are to be taught and learnt by the students in English was the idea of Tun Dr. Mahathir. He is the one who brings a lot of benefit and development to Malaysians. However quite a part of Malaysians were against his idea because they do not understand English well. Even though there are some problems appear, Tun Dr. Mahathir insist to continue his idea. So, English is used in the teaching of both subjects. It might be a problem for secondary and primary students. Because the actual language they learning was in Malay and the sudden changes might bring them up some problems during their learning session and practical session.

Due to the imbalance percentage of Malaysia’s citizen agree to accept Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad’s idea which means there is no 100% agree with Science and Mathematics subjects are to be taught in English, a discussion was carried out to show that whether English is the most suitable language to be use for teaching in Science and Mathematics subjects. Regarding to that matter, below are some results of the discussion that had been carried out.

Beyond the benefit that we gained from this change that Tun Dr. Mahathir had made years ago is that all of us had give our best shot in learning English and communicate with each other with the teacher in schools or even though sometimes the younger generation comes out for a small gathering, they used English as their communication source instead of using their custom language. It is a good beginning for the young generation in Malaysia to learn to speak English not only during classes or practical classes but also in their daily life to communicate with each other. English is an International language. Due to that, the citizens of Malaysia are encouraged to learn and speak in English in daily life. English can help us to communicate with each other in the whole wide world. From the aspect of communication, the language of English do helps a lots in the advanced era. For example, two years ago, Malaysia had sent an astronaut to the space. The astronaut was Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor. He was sent to be trained physically and mentally in Russia. There, they use English as the communication source. As we can see from here, English do helps a lots in communication service in the modern days.

Other than that, learning English can helps us to understand more because of nowadays, more and more things are coming up in English. It is good that we learnt English language as to improve our knowledge. Instead of helping us to improve our knowledge, we could also get ourselves updated to the latest news in Internet, such as www.yahoo.com and www.msn.com. Both of this internet webpage do provides a lot of latest news from around the world and the news are all in English language. This is why Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad suggested the idea of teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics subjects in English language. After the idea of changing the language used for teaching Science and Mathematics from Malay language to English language, a program was established which is called the PPSMI, “Pendidikan Pembelajaran Sains dan Mathematics dalam Bahasa Inggeris”. This program was carried out in every school in Malaysia. The objective is to encourage students and citizens of Malaysia to study and learnt to speak English and take English language as their communication source in daily life. This is because speaking in English has to be practiced always so that we could speak fluently in the future as long as we are intended to learn to speak English.

Although English language do helps a lot in our daily life, but there is side effects of this program carried out. The major problem is that students are stressed up because of the sudden change in the language used to teach both the Science and Mathematics subjects from Malay language to English language. It’s a big gap for the students to study in English as they have to study from beginning to understand the basic theory of both of the subjects as English and Malay language are two different things. This might cause the students to pressure them up and they might be either gone crazy or commit suicide. But there are also some students who are determined they can manage to break this obstacle and go on their study in English language. These students are good and they have the qualification as Malaysia’s future leaders to lead the coming up younger generation to follow up their steps.

From the discussion, it can be seen that learning English language is harmless and in fact it helps to improve the quality of a person’s life. This shows that English language benefits us more than harming. It can helps us as in communication source to communicate with each other around the world and up to date about the latest news happened from around the world. On behalf of the disadvantage, students who are stressed, this problem is actually can be solved. They can look for counselor to help them and release their stress. Besides, they also can go for extra English classes to improve their English. This is just depends on ourselves whether we want it or not. If we want it, sure there is the way to solve it.

From the passage, I agree that teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics in English language should keep on. This is also the only way to encourage the citizens of Malaysia to learn English and master it and use it as a communication source in daily life.

Today is the Investiture and AGM of 05th Kuching City Scout Group.
The event start from 1.00 p.m. adjourned till 4.00p.m.
There are 7 of us ( my batch ) attend the AGM and Investiture.
DC Mr. Charles Yeo and ADC Mr. Joseph Tan had attend the Investiture.
DC Mr. Charles Yeo attend the Investiture is to witness
the new members officially joined part of the scouting movement around the world,
and to become a real scout.
Meanwhile, ADC Mr. Joseph Tan attend the Investiture
is to award the Rambu Remaja to the Form5 Scouts
who had successfully achieved their 5-Highest badges.
In addition, Congratulations to all the new scout members and those Pengakap Remaja.
7 of us attend the Investiture and Annual General Meeting.

Yesterday went for my Culinary Arts Class.

My lecturer is Sir Joseph Martin, a handsome guy. Haha.

Yesterday was the 1st class so Sir Joseph just gave us the briefing.

On the DOS and DONS in the Kitchen and teach us how to light up the Pilot of the Stove.

He also introduce the Kitchen Utensil.

I was just standing at there . ERRRRRRRRR.

So many different types of Pots with different NAMES..ARGH!!!

And I have to memorize all of them. = =".

met some new friends. There are 7 chinese in this course.

2 from Sibu, 1 from Bintangor, 1 from Johor Bharu

the other 3 are from Kuching.

There's 1 thing I shocked about.

people people people. sometimes people do have their own personality. and guess what, we could not control them even they could not control themselves. so, what for are we argueing over some people attitude. why dont we just live a happy and peaceful life without caring about some others' people attitude or just anything? scolding people around without prove and good reason is very bad, you guys shud know right. besides even though you wanted to scold, it's not your turn to scold yet, think about it before doing it. maybe you can change it, or we all together can change it. it's just that whether you want it or not. if you dont want it, sorry then. people will just keep on spreading and spreading and at the end they will end up with "you are not my friend". or even worse "I hate you and Im gona kill you". no matter what. please, think before you act. kinda pity you know.

现在的心情好乱耶
我到底在为了什么而伤心呢?
说好的，不要了
但为什么每一次发生时
我就心软了耶，我好没用哦
唉唉唉唉。。
心情不好，但却想要写一篇故事
好奇怪耶，也许是想提醒自己吧了

这是一个爱情故事
故事里的女主角名叫夏天
特别吧。。男主角呢就叫着熊猫。。
呵呵。。其实是女主角给他的外号。。
这两个人从小就扯在一起
直到他们长大时，也在一起念书
还没分离。。他们俩总喜欢打架的。。
打起来呢还蛮猛的。。但却没受伤。。
熊猫也曾经告诉夏天说。。
萤火虫在夏天找不到它的另一伴时。。
它会撑过夏天。。变成了秋天的萤火虫。。
继续寻找它的另一伴。。所以说呢。。
只要找得到秋天的萤火虫。。愿望可以实现。。
一天。。夏天发现了。。她喜欢上了熊猫。。
但电冰箱且否认他喜欢夏天。。
结果呢夏天只好伤心地离开。。
可是有一个晚上，他们俩约了朋友一起喝酒。。
到头来，夏天却喝醉了。。熊猫只好送她回家咯。。
回家路上时。。他们经过了一个花园。。
在花园里呢，夏天却问了熊猫一个问题。。
"你是不是喜欢上我了。?"
但熊猫却还再次否认他喜欢夏天。。
其实是熊猫自己不确定，他是不是喜欢夏天。?
过后夏天却哭了起来。。熊猫就心疼地对她道歉。。
最后熊猫就背着夏天回家。。
当他背着夏天时。。他有一个感觉。。
那感觉让他舍不得把夏天放下。。
他却想一直地背着夏天。。永远都不放下。。
背着夏天。。熊猫却一点累也没感觉到。。
到了熊猫的家时，夏天就躺在熊猫的床上。。
害得熊猫他没地方睡。。只好在地上铺床铺睡觉。。
隔天早上，熊猫醒来时却看到夏天既然睡在他的旁边。。
这时他望着夏天时。。很认真的确认他。。
是否喜欢夏天了。。当他一直地望着时。。
就在那一刻。。他很确定的他已喜欢上夏天了。。
不久夏天醒了。。两人聊了一下。。
就准备上学去了。。
学校附近有间阳光鬼屋。。
好久都没人去过。。
过不久。。阳光鬼屋发生了事情。。
当时他们俩都在现场。。
夏天被一位歹徒捉住了。。
这歹徒以前被夏天的老爸捉过一次。。
夏天的老爸是一位警官。。
这一次是特别回来报复的。。
歹徒手上呢有着一把手枪。。
当夏警官想要捉住歹徒时。。
夏天挣扎了一下，从歹徒的手上逃走了。。
但歹徒却开了一枪。。熊猫辛好及时赶上。。
把夏天推倒一边。。但是事情不是很好看咯。。
夏天翻过来时。。发现熊猫腰部中了枪。。
结果熊猫就被送入医院了。。
在24小时内呢。。若熊猫没醒过来。。
恐怕会有三长两短。。
这时夏天唯一能为熊猫做的事情。。
就是找到秋天的萤火虫。。实现她想要就熊猫的愿望。。
当晚她为了要寻找萤火虫。。她爬过一个高过她的篱笆。。
当她跳下时。。却扭到了她的脚。。
但是为了救熊猫，她带着疼痛的脚。。
继续寻找秋天的萤火虫。。找着找着。。
却要过一条小溪耶。。夏天只好一步一步地过小溪。。
但她不小心摔倒了。。幸亏有一位好心人经过。。
把夏天带回去了。。结果她找不到秋天的萤火虫。。
熊猫感觉好难受了。。夏天则舍不得地在一旁哭。。
她手伸进口袋里。。确摸到一个瓶子。。
里面既然是一只秋天的萤火虫。。
夏天高兴地抱着熊猫。。
结果熊猫的病情奇迹的好转了。。
他们俩高兴的扯在一起。。过着永远都快乐的生活。。

这也许是我们所说的
"爱的力量"吧！！
原来爱的昧力可以让一个人
愿意为了他的爱人而奋不顾身地去保护他们。。
感动吧。。！！

Just back from KHSRC Camp 2008 at Pusat KK
hmm..wen we 1st arrive..
no people entertain us..
so tat nite..we felt damn bore..
find sth to do..
and some people is just so unlucky to be our victim..
hahaha..tat person is a.k.a MANGKALEH..LOLS
then after playing..supper~~~bath~~~ AT 12AM!!!
haha..at the end cant slp lar..
not suit us..too early to sleep in a camp..
so we decided to talk ghost story..
then..bout 2 pm..battery flat jor..hahaha..
the nex day..all the participants arrive at pusat KK..
includes some from miri,bintulu, and some other place wic i nt sure..
then..we teach them on how to set up a modern camp..
after the setting up of modern camp..we all free lyk "god"
in hokkien, ppl say "eng kueh sian"
hahaha..whole day ar..after the modern camp setting til nite time til sleep time..
NOTHING TO DO!!!hahas..
the nex day..wic is our last day..in mornin shud be teaching the RCs bout backwood..
bt the weather turn bad so it was cancelled
agen "eng kueh sian" bt nt as eng as 1st day..hahas..
cz at noon..bout 3pm there was an obstacle..
at 1st i was at commando crawl station..bt after i found tat i was feeding some sand flies..
i quickly change to tarzan swing..haha..dip into the pond der..lols..
trying to be hero..mwahahaha..bt not so many needed to be given help..all cn pass thru..
then..tat station-in-charge soi lor..
duno hw many times kena push into the pond der..hahas..
den wen the obstacle fnh..we all go into the pond..i mean scouts..
who ever nt wet are nt allow leave the obstacle course area..
even audrey..she dun wan to get wet..at the end..
mwahahaha..wet aso lor..xD..
then we quickly pack up our thng and clear up our thngs..
and go to take a bath and have our dinner at the canteen der..
then receive the cert given by the KHSRC camp 2008 organizing committee..
straight after that..we all went home..
bt before depart for home..we depart for KFC@parkson 1st..hahas..
then baru depart for home..hahas..

Then..we went to breakfast at open air food market

Today and yesterday
I went to school
My scout friends are preparing for their coming district camp
They building their draft camp

The Happening Today

Today..things went like usual..
morning..went to badminton at Sports Arena
with Hsuan Phin, Ang, Lit Wei, Andy, "Roadside", Twins and Jeremy
we played for 2 hours..then..
we all went to Chung Hua Primary School No.3
went to the stall nearby for ICE KACANG!!
then..we made our ordered..
I ordered 开心太平洋, "Roadside" ordered CJ7,
then the rest ordered 伤心太平洋..LOLS..
curious bout the name..?go try out the ICE KACANG urself..hahas..
then bout 2pm..we went to MBKS pool for swimming..
after bout an hour plus..we went to Jeremy house..
and ..we "swim" again..lols..haha..
that swimming is table swimming..hahas..
dunno what is it..go find out urself..xD..hahas..
then.bout 9pm..we all went home..
back to home and sleep..
and 1 more thing I did..

SWIMMING

Just now went to MBKS Swimming Pool with Lobin..
Hahas..we swim the 50m long de..then after 6 laps..I peng liao..lols..
Because my hand is pain cause of Saturday de badminton..
Then we decided to go the diving pool to continue swim..
At there..I swam better than the 50m..hahas..
There I swim for bout 10 laps non-stop..lols..
Not freestyle la..only breaststroke..
If I swam freestyle..MY HAND IS DAMN PAIN..>.<""
while swimming at the diving pool..
There's a lot of Bomba Motorcycle and a Fire Engine pass by..
The noise is damn noisy..lols..they all went into the MBKS that road..
But dunno where they go..lols..
hahas..then after swam for quite awhile about 15 or 18 laps like that..
We went home..xD..
The feeling is so song after swimming for so long..WAKAKAKAKAZZ..!!!

I'M TOUCHED

Just now watched a movie..
"Faith Of My Father"
It's about a soldier went for a Bombing Mission in Vietnam..
His name was John Maccain..
He's married and have 4 children..
During the bombing mission..his plane was shot..
Luckily he pulled the trigger and jump out from the plane..
He dropped into a river with the help of "parashute"
Then he was caught by the Vietnam Army..
At 1st..his leg was injured and was bandaged in cement..
Then..after 2 years..he recovered a lots..
Just then he recovered..the prison head offer him for leaving the prison..
But..before this..his prison roommate also been offered the same offer..
At the end..Maccain found him hanging by his hand tie at the back..
Hanging in a room.."OWHH..HOW PAIN IS THAT..?!!?!!"
After that..Maccain insisted to stay and wait for rescue..
Then after 5 years..he finally got rescued and sent back to America..
God bless him that he managed to survive after 5 years of torturing life..

This is a movie dedicated to all U.S. Army who fought in Vietnam War..

In the other words..It brings the message that..
Be a tough guy..there's nothing that we can't solved..
